Northern Nevada
Make Reno Tahoe Your Basecamp
Northern Nevada is everything you’ve ever wanted with a side of the unexpected. It’s wild. It’s sophisticated. It’s unusual. The kind of place a person can experience world-class skiing, fine dining, craft cocktails and penny slots all in the same day. If Northern Nevada were a drink, it’d be a splash of the old West mixed with equal parts art, tech and nightlife poured over the great outdoors and garnished with alpine air.
If you’re planning on visiting, there’s no better home base than Reno, aka “The Biggest Little City.” Reno’s central location is ideal for seeing everything Northern Nevada has to offer.
Once you’ve arrived, everything is just a short drive away, including spectacular Lake Tahoe. But Reno itself has its own personality worth getting to know. Historically known for gambling, Reno has experienced an economic growth spurt that has rebooted it as “The Next Silicon Valley.”
Reno, NV
Although Reno has long been known for gambling, “The Biggest Little City” is changing with the times and has even been called “The Next Silicon Valley” by Bloomberg Businessweek. Tech giants Tesla, Switch, and Panasonic are just a few of the companies that have chosen to call Northern Nevada home, leading to a spur in the local economy. Boutique hotels, craft breweries, and a thriving art scene are now becoming synonymous with Reno, making it the perfect vacation destination.
Sparks, NV
Just east of Reno, Sparks, Nevada offers a wide array of events and attractions. Star Spangled Sparks, Nugget Best in the West Rib Cook Off, Hot August Nights and Hometowne Christmas Parade are just a few of the events that attract thousands of attendees each year. The city of Sparks has distinguished itself as a great special events destination in the West, furthering its apropos slogan, “It’s Happening Here.”
Incline Village
Once you’ve arrived, everything is just a short drive away, including spectacular Lake Tahoe. Find easy access to outdoor activities, restaurants, golf courses and hotels in Incline Village, located right on the shore of Lake Tahoe. This outdoor adventure hub is a short day trip from Reno, or a great place to base your adventures.
Virginia City
If you feel like exploring outside of the Reno area, you’ll find a mix of communities and smaller cities rich in history and personality. Step back into the era of the Wild West in Virginia City and walk the same streets as Mark Twain.
Carson City
Nevada's capital, Carson City, is located just 30 minutes south of Reno. This historic town boasts a vibrant downtown, plenty of museums and cultural attractions, as well as a plethora of outdoor activities. It's well-worth the day trip for history buffs, foodies and outdoor enthusiasts.
