Backcountry bliss to poolside paradise
Day 1 at 8 a.m.
Hit the backcountry
Lake Tahoe is known for its world-renowned ski resorts, and we won’t deny you’ll experience epic terrain and breathtaking views at each of them, but there’s something magical about finding yourself in the quiet of the backcountry. You can head out on traditional cross-country skis, or rent an alpine touring setup from a local ski shop, which allows you to access terrain as you would on cross-country skis, then take some unforgettable turns on untouched snow. As with any type of skiing, always ski with a buddy and take any necessary training to understand the equipment.
Day 1 at 5 p.m.
Time to thaw and grab some grub
After a day exploring the Sierra Nevada backcountry, warm-up at The Pool at the Grand Sierra Resort. This newly-renovated heated pool area is open year-round with hot tubs and fire pits so you can soak and relax even in the winter. Complete the experience with a cocktail or craft beer from the full-service bar or refuel with their poolside food menu.
Day 1 at 8 p.m.
An evening of out-of-this-world fun
Zombie apocalypse? Alien worlds? They’re closer than you think! Since you can’t get enough adventure for one day, find yourself fully immersed in out-of-this-world experiences at Zero Latency, a free-roaming virtual reality experience at Grand Sierra Resort’s Max Action Arena. You can also jump into a 5-D experience at the X-D Theater or try your hand at a variety of games and challenges with the Chaos Jump Virtual Reality.
Day 2 at 9 a.m.
A morning paddle
Sure, winter isn’t the typical time to hit the beach, but Lake Tahoe’s glassy water is too tempting to resist for the most intrepid of stand-up paddleboarders. And if the thought of dipping even a toe in the lake’s chilly water doesn’t sound inviting, this can be a great time to explore the shoreline. Pack a picnic, dress in a few extra layers than you would for your typical beach day and enjoy the peaceful calm of Tahoe set against a snowy horizon. With more than 300 days of sunshine each year and 72 miles of shoreline, Lake Tahoe offers plenty of chances to get on or near the water.
Day 2 at noon
Food with a view
Want some grub with a view but it’s too cold to sit outside? No problem. The dining room at Lone Eagle Grille sports floor-to-ceiling windows, so you can catch that view no matter where you are in the restaurant.
Day 2 at 2 p.m.
Into the swing of things
No wimpy golf claps allowed at Grand Bay Driving Range. Bring your cheering squad and take aim at the floating targets at this unique driving range. Feeling confident after practicing your swing? Head inside and channel your inner Paul Bunyan at Bad Axe – Axe Throwing. Wait. An axe? Throwing it? We know, it sounds wild but trust us, you don’t need to be a lumberjack to set your sights on the wooden targets. No matter how you prefer to show off your skills, the GSR has even more ways to amp up the friendly competition, from bowling to an escape room.
