Plan a virtually perfect winter getaway in Reno Tahoe

A little winter weather isn’t going to keep us trapped indoors. Exploration doesn’t have a peak season and in Reno Tahoe, every new season brings new adventure. So what do snowy mountain-top views, hot tubs and zombies have in common? They are just a few of the things that the crew from Paradise got up to during their visit to Reno Tahoe.

Backcountry bliss to poolside paradise

We're just getting warmed up

Even adrenaline junkies need to chill out once in a while. Whether you just checked into your hotel or you’re recovering from a day of heart-pumping adventures, warming up and relaxing next to a cozy fire pit is always a good idea. This is the perfect place to plan your next outing or reminisce about the day… crafting the tales you’re going to take home. And we won’t tell if you embellish a bit (wink). Keep scrolling to see more of what paradise had on their agenda.

The path less taken

Lake Tahoe is known for its world-renowned ski resorts, and we won’t deny you’ll experience epic terrain and breathtaking views at each of them, but there’s something magical about finding yourself in the quiet of the backcountry. You can head out on traditional cross-country skis, or rent an alpine touring setup from a local ski shop, which allows you to access terrain as you would on cross-country skis, then take some unforgettable turns on untouched snow. As with any type of skiing, always ski with a buddy and take any necessary training to understand the equipment.

How's the water?

Sure, winter isn’t the typical time to hit the beach, but Lake Tahoe’s glassy water is too tempting to resist for the most intrepid of stand-up paddleboarders. And if the thought of dipping even a toe in the lake’s chilly water doesn’t sound inviting, this can be a great time to explore the shoreline. Pack a picnic, dress in a few extra layers than you would for your typical beach day and enjoy the peaceful calm of Tahoe set against a snowy horizon. With more than 300 days of sunshine each year and 72 miles of shoreline, Lake Tahoe offers plenty of chances to get on or near the water.

Time to Thaw

After a day exploring the Sierra Nevada backcountry, warm-up at The Pool at the Grand Sierra Resort. This newly-renovated heated pool area is open year-round with hot tubs and fire pits so you can soak and relax even in the winter. Complete the experience with a cocktail or craft beer from the full-service bar or refuel with their poolside food menu.

Out of this world

Zombie apocalypse? Alien worlds? They’re closer than you think! Find yourself fully immersed in out-of-this-world experiences at Zero Latency, a free-roaming virtual reality experience at Grand Sierra Resort’s Max Action Arena. You can also jump into a 5-D experience at the X-D Theater or try your hand at a variety of games and challenges with the Chaos Jump Virtual Reality.

Into the swing of things

No wimpy golf claps allowed at Grand Bay Driving Range. Bring your cheering squad and take aim at the floating targets at this unique driving range. Feeling confident after practicing your swing? Head inside and channel your inner Paul Bunyan at Bad Axe – Axe Throwing. Wait. An axe? Throwing it? We know, it sounds wild but trust us, you don’t need to be a lumberjack to set your sights on the wooden targets. No matter how you prefer to show off your skills, the GSR has even more ways to amp up the friendly competition, from bowling to an escape room.
